SAINT-JOSEPH PAINT FOR US!
’Shebam ! Pow ! Blop ! Wizz !’
Could be the gainsbourian describing sub-title for Joseph Show.
The Paintings - collages - montages from this French artist from the prestigious Ecole Boulle are flashing and exploding in your face while the slogans that accompany them multiply the caustic meaning. Often innocuous, these little catch-phrases attached to scenes of the american way of life indeed give the whole an ironic dimension. Not that the artist is against the American Dream, but still, there is wit and joke in his brush soaked with resin. Joseph next project: juxtaposing wise images of conjugal bliss, from LIFE magazine, with pornographic images. Comic effect guaranteed.
